Croll (Petzl)
The Petzl Croll is used for climbing a fixed rope in complement with an Ascension handled rope clamp / grab. Attached to the climbing harness with a connector (such as the Attache M20 carabiner) it takes up a position flat against the body with the help of the Secur shoulder straps. Its chrome steel autolocking cam gives an optimal grip on the rope and slides upward very easily. Used for 8-13 mm diameter kernmantle rope. Weight 130g.

Variable Controller (Wild Country)
The Variable Controller was designed after a detailed study of the dynamics of belaying and rappelling. The result was a unique wedge shape, which gives climbers a choice between smooth controlled rappelling and snatch free belaying. The Variable Controller's narrow slots combine with the narrow side of the wedge to force the ropes into a tight 'S' bend controlling the rope smoothly and effectively particularly when rappelling with modern lightweight half and single ropes.
By reversing the Variable Controller to allow the rope to feed into the deep end of the wedge you can belay and payout in complete control, the long lease ensuring a snatch free payout even with chalked up wall ropes.
The Variable Controller is forged from HE 30 aluminium with enough material to dissipate heat, yet remain lightweight. This together with the large and smooth rope grooves ensure long-term durability and minimum rope wear. Gri Gri (Petzl)
The GRIGRI belay device was invented by PETZL, introducing a new technique of belaying and descending. The GRIGRI is designed for indoor climbing or well-equipped sport climbing, not for alpinism or adventure climbing. The GRIGRI works somewhat like an automobile seat belt. When movements are slow, the rope runs freely through the device. When there is a shock load, the GRIGRI locks, jamming the rope with a cam. The GRIGRI is a dependable product and totally innovative in the technique of belaying, but threading the rope into it requires care not to thread it backwards, in which case it will not do its job.
Features: Allows belaying and lowering of a climber even where the latter is heavier than the belayer. A handle allows easy control of the device and smooth running of the rope.

Shunt (Petzl)
The Petzl Shunt is a jamming device which replaces a self-jamming knot such as a Prusik knot.
Advantages: gives you an additional safety system when descending by backing up the descender. Pull it down the rope to descend, when released it will jam. The Petzl Shunt can also be used for ascending. It may be used on single rope (10-11 mm) or double rope (8-11 mm).

Petzl belay device and descender.
The Petzl Reverso is a device for belaying the leader or the second, on either single or double dynamic rope. The rope runs easily without sticking for giving slack. By holding the free end it is easy to brake the rope and effectively hold a fall. You can attach it to the belay and change to belaying in autolocking mode. In this way, one or two seconds can be belayed independently. Finally, it can be used for abseiling.
