Colin Chick

Colin Chick, Penine Way

A newly appointed national-park ranger will be responsible for looking after almost a fifth of the length of the Penine Way.

The responsibility of maintenance of England’s first National Trail from Gargrave to Tan Hill has been handed to Colin Chick.

Fundraising and Community Events

Colin states that his job is much more than just maintenance…

One of the most important parts of my role is to arrange events and recreational activities that will encourage individuals and groups of all kinds to get first-hand experience of a national trail by simply going out and enjoying it.

Tom Buckley

Tom Buckley with Twin Sister

Coast-to-Coast walker Tom Buckley has completed his charity trek across the UK.

The 23-year-old, who has terminal cancer, walked into the North Yorkshire village of Robin Hood’s Bay on the 18th grueling day of his 192-mile journey, on the 16th December.

£50,000 target has been reached!

What an amazing feet – even under such adverse conditions, such challenging terrain and pain throughout the latter stages of the trek, Tom completed the trek that raised £50,000.  A colossal feat, and one that is truly admirable.

What is Via Ferrata?

In Italian, via Ferrata means “Iron Way”. Essential, via Ferrata are designed to be scrambles or easily climbed routes that are equipped with cables for safety, and possibly ladders and bridges according to the terrain.

The cables are fixed to the rock at regular intervals.  These intervals can vary from 2 to 10m depedning on the complexity and difficulty of the climb but are designed to aid access for multiple abilities.  Some people like to climb the rock wherever possible; others will use the cables as a handrail.

Expedition Reaches the Pole!

On the 27th of December 2008 Adam Wilton and Gavin Booth reached the South Pole. Their unsupported, unassisted expedition from Hercules Inlet to the Geographic South Pole took 45 days 13 hours and 30 minutes.

It is only just starting to sink in that we are actually here and we are over the moon. On reaching the South Pole we believe that we have become only the 12th/13th Britons in history ever to make it to the South Pole from the edge of Antarctica unsupported (no resupply) and unassisted (man-hauling only). Since the start of our planning, it has been a five year journey to get here and we look forward to reflecting on what we have done.
