The Coast to Coast Walk is a 192 mile route that was devised by Alfred Wainwright in 1973. Its starting point is at the Irish Sea (St Bee’s) and it finishes at the North Sea (Robin Hood’s Bay) passing through 3 national parks: Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks. The highest point on the route is Kidsty Pike at 780m (2559ft) above sea level. The route is a mutli-day walking challenge and is one of the most popular walking routes in the UK.

With the London 2012 Olympics around a month away, here at Cheap Tents we are getting fairly excited. One of the biggest reasons we are excited is because of an initiative by our friends at Camping Ninja, called Camping at the Games.

Erliah China: The border crossing between Mongolia and China.

Leon McCarron and Rob Lilwall arrive in China

Way back in November last year, two men embarked on an amazing adventure that would involve hiking 3,100 miles from Ulaan Baator to Hong Kong. “After 195 days, 10 million steps and far too many instant noodles” Leon McCarron and Rob Lilwall have completed their epic Walk Home From Mongolia!

The journey took Leon and Rob from the capital city of Mongolia, straight out into the wilderness of the Gobi desert. In the middle of winter they crossed through the border into Northern China. Heading south, the Great Wall led them down to frozen Yellow River. After visiting the ancient city of Xi An they crossed the mountains of central China and Guilin, before passing through GuangZhou and finally arriving in Hong Kong.

Father’s day has become over commercialised over the past decade or three. This year we want to break with the idea of selling you something to give to your dad, we all know he has too many ties anyway!

Geek dad day 2012 june 17

So instead of the usual list of amazing fathers day gifts, this year we want to take a different track. Inspired by a Wired article I recently read encouraging father and child to go to science museums and spend quality geek time together, we here at CheapTents want to encourage you to get out into the countryside around you this GeekDad Day.
