Today we are announcing an Exclusive product created by Cheap Tents.

There aren’t many amongst the hiking and camping community who haven’t noticed the similarity in looks of a water bladder and a hospital drip. They both generally offer hydration to the body, even if the method of entry varies some what.

Something that made this idea come to life was when out testing a tent one weekend, Daniel was seen to hang his Platypus 2L Hoser (along with a lamp) from the inner tent loop. His excuse was it meant he didn’t have to unzip the tent inner to get water from his rucksack and it didn’t go all over the place when he rolled over onto it in the night. A pretty good excuse for the full story, which we learnt later, and led to our innovation that is today’s product.

P-8 Jacket
from The North Face

Update:We are no longer stock the P-8 jacket and instead recommend the Berghaus RG Delta or The North Face Sequence waterproof jackets.

The Men’s Resolve Jacket has for many years been the North Face’s flagship budget lightweight waterproof jacket, ideal for walking, trekking, around town or as a car coat for inclement weather. However, in my opinion the Resolve is starting to look its age, it seems that the North Face may agree as they have brought out the P-8 Waterproof Jacket.

The summit 1085m above sea level saw a sizeable crowd gather to watch Sir Chris Bonington hold the Olympic flame aloft. Bonington who began his career 61 years ago climbing Snowdon, Wales’ highest mountain, said that it was a “notable first” for himself to travel up the mountain using the narrow gauge railway constructed in the 80’s.

Moments before recieving the torch, Bonington tweeted:

Whilst it is fairly true to say that health and safety regulations protect us from harm, injury and death in many circumstances, they can be a bureaucratic nightmare that end up stopping us from doing things that we enjoy. Some people believe that we live in a Nanny State that has taken health and safety so far that it is impinging upon our civil liberties.

Outdoor pursuits, such as hiking, climbing and mountaineering carry risks and as such health and safety must be considered, especially by companies that provide guiding services or by schools and other groups that take children on these activities. However, the inherent risk is one of the aspects of outdoor activities that makes them so rewarding. By placing health and safety restrictions on outdoor enthusiasts is our personal freedom being curtailed?

Time has flown by since the beginning on the new Millennium! Its hard to imagine that the now iconic structures of the London Eye and the Millennium Dome were brand new, and that they were supposed to be only temporary. At that time the internet was becoming more and more mainstream but it certainly wasn’t the everyday business, communication, entertainment and information media that it has become today.

Yet way back in the year 2000, at Adventure Centre Ltd, we started work on CheapTents. At that time there were several well-known discounting websites such as Cheap Flights. From this the idea of the CheapTents brand was born. It made perfect sense since we were selling top quality outdoor gear at discounted prices, but of course, Not Just Tents!
