Our review today is the Lightwave T10 Trek, an Ultralight 4 season tent which weighs in at 1.7 kg. The T10 is a 1 person 2 pole tunnel tent with an aero dynamic shape to enable it to comfortably deal with bad weather conditions. The interior is a wedge shape, which gives more room at the head and shoulders for extra comfort.

Update: We no longer sell the MSR Holler. Instead we recommend the Lightwave T30 Trail XT or the Snugpak Bunker 3 backpacking tents for 3 people.

The MSR Holler is a large, 3 person, 3 season, high quality tent designed with backpacking and comfort in mind. With 3.7 square metres of floor space, plus 2 vestibule areas and a mid-point height of just over 1 metre, you won’t be short of space in this tent. In addition to this the MSR Holler weighs in at just under 3kg, making this a really lightweight 3 person tent, ideal for backpacking and wild campers who want a bit of extra space.

Update: The Vaude Taurus 2 has been discontinued. Instead we recommend the The North Face Heyerdahl 3, which is a 3 person, 3 season tunnel tent.

The Vaude Taurus 2 is a 3 man, 3 season tent which weighs in at 2.69 kg. The tent construction is a Curved “A” Reinforced Ridge which is very stable and offers good internal height at the door. The Taurus 2 is an all-in-one pitch which enables the tent to be pitched by one person fairly easily regardless of weather conditions. Although listed for 3 persons we do feel that most users will use it as a 2 person tent, as it’s a great tent for 2 people camping.

Update: We no longer sell the Nordisk Pasch PU and instead recommend the Lightwave T10 Trek tent. The T10 Trek is a 1 person, 3-4 season tunnel tent weighing 1.7 kg. Ideal for solo camping and backpacking.

The Nordisk Pasch PU is one of several tents from Nordisk that Cheap Tents stock. With a weight of 1.93kg and tunnel design, it is suitable for 3 season camping. The Pasch is a surprisingly roomy one-man tent, pretty much perfect for most backpackers.

Update: We are not currently selling the Mirage 200. As an alternative we recommend the Jack Wolfskin Gossamer II which is a tunnel tent as opposed to the semi-geodesic style of the Mirage.

The Mirage 200 is a 2 man, 3 season backpacking tent from Vango’s expedition range. With an RRP of £150 (July 2012) it represents great value for money and it is no wonder that it is a Duke of Edinburgh Award approved product.

What makes the Vango Mirage 200 such a good buy? Some of the features that we like best are it’s sizeable interior, quick all in-one pitching and the free-standing, semi-geodesic design.

Update: Please note that the Power Tokee has been discontinued. As an alternative we recommend the Nordisk Telemark 1 LW instead.

This week’s Product of the Week (09/07/12) is the Vaude Power Tokee Ultralight 2012 Tent. A tent we’ve chosen as a star product, it’s a favourite amongst our customers and one of our best selling tents. The Power Tokee is a 1 person ultralight tent, which at only 860 g packed is currently the lightest tent in our selection. In our review we take a look at its features and find out why it is one of our best selling tents.

P-8 Jacket
from The North Face

Update:We are no longer stock the P-8 jacket and instead recommend the Berghaus RG Delta or The North Face Sequence waterproof jackets.

The Men’s Resolve Jacket has for many years been the North Face’s flagship budget lightweight waterproof jacket, ideal for walking, trekking, around town or as a car coat for inclement weather. However, in my opinion the Resolve is starting to look its age, it seems that the North Face may agree as they have brought out the P-8 Waterproof Jacket.

Forest Xplorer is the Forestry Commission for England’s free mobile app, for Android and iPhone. The app, which you can download today, is a great little companion app to have with you whether you enjoy a walk in the forest or enjoy camping in the forest.

The app is one of the best guides we’ve seen in the “forest sector”, it has a handy events finder and one of the best features we think is the UK tree identifier utility (more about this later).

Standing in our shop last week I had an epiphany whilst examining two different windshirts, a thought came into my mind which stunned me that wind proof clothing is even more versatile than I thought! Now in my defence I know Waterproof Jackets are 100% windproof, but what I was thinking about was the other windproof and wind resistant products that are on the market. The kind of clothing designed especially for summer or active use, as you don’t really want to wear your waterproof on a lovely bright BREEZY day do you? Or a fleece that as soon as the wind gusts is as much protection as a chocolate fireguard?

Let’s start this review of the Force 10 Helium 100 with a bit of background information. In 2012 Vango have changed round their backpacking range, dropping the old Helium Superlite 100 and replacing it with the redesigned the Helium 100. Its probably not a surprising move as the Helium Superlite 100 at 0.97kg was extremely close in weight to the old Helium 100, which weighed 1.15kg, not to mention that they were only separated in RRPs by only £30. The current model is called the Force 10 Helium 1.
