A pothole in the road

A Pothole. Cyclists watch out!

About a year ago I was cycling home from work and came a cropper when I hit a pot hole in the road.

The road in question is in the countryside, just on the edge of the city. There are no street lights and it was a dark, rainy winters night. I have a Cat-Eye Power Opti-Cube LED bike light, which I am very pleased with. It provides enough light to see where you are going when it is dark, but when faced with the glare of the headlights of on-coming traffic it is impossible to see the road surface.

Google is constantly seeking new information which it likes to share with the online world. One of the best examples of this is mapping. Satellite images are available for all to see on Google Earth. Google Maps not only features maps and aerial views, but for many parts of the world we can see what it looks like at street level with Google Street View. An immeasurable number of miles of roads in western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the USA have been photographed at road level. This is done using cars with 360 degree cameras mounted on the roof. The Google cars simply drive around filming our roads and streets.

If you’re thinking of going cycle touring why not head off to Chile for a week and spend the entire time cycling 250 miles? Probably the best reason why not to is that Chile is a long way from the UK and that cycling 250 miles in week sounds like hard graft. On the other hand you could have a great time, see some amazing sights and raise money charity. And that is exactly what Malcolm Rogerson of Sale, Cheshire will be doing in September.

Walking, Running and Riding is not just a weekend activity!

It’s funny how most of us wait until the weekend to go walking or running in lush countryside…but why?

Go for a Walk in your Lunchbreak

Have you ever done a satellite-view search in Google Maps to see what greenery there is near your workplace or home? It’s very interesting, as there’s often pockets of greenery in places near to you that you weren’t aware of.

Take a look at Google Maps and see if you can find any green gold mines! From the head office’s doorstep you would not imagine how much greenery there is beyond a few buildings, but it looks like this:
