Scout Information

Tents
& Camping Equipment
Your
Scout group needs the right tent for the right conditions.
If you're going to be hiking with your tent on your back then
you'd probably be best with a lightweight
backpacking tent, but it might be the case that you're
basing your group in one area, in which case a group
tent will do just the trick.
Cooking
Equipment
One of
the best things of being a Scout is going camping! Whether
you're looking for ultralight camping
stoves or lightweight
pans you've come to the right place.

Stay warm
- wear the right outdoor clothing!
It's
important for you to stay warm, as you're body doesn't operate
too well when the temperature falls. Take a look at
our range of discounted fleeces
and insulated
jackets. Some people also like softshell
jackets in the cold, as many have the benefit of being
breathable yet windproof, water resistant and hard wearing.
Not
hotels - back to nature!
This
sounds like a very obvious point, but you are going to be
in the wild without amenities that we take for granted so
make sure you are comfortable. Do you have a roll
matt or mattress for a good nights sleep? Do you have
a rucksack
liner to keep your gear dry and organised? A lightweight
travel towel? A head
torch to see where you're going at night?! Or even walking
poles to help keep up the pace whilst hiking all day long!
Outdoor
clothing & equipment for the right locations!
Knowing
where you will be staying, the kind of weather to expect and
what activities you'll be doing when you get there will help
you be prepared. Will you be needing a waterproof
jacket or waterproof
trousers for white water rafting or rain, walking
boots for hiking up a mountain or two, or even a sub-zero,
ultra lightweight down
sleeping bag? It's important to plan ahead as you might
not have access to shops that sell the outdoro equipment you
want, at such great prices!

Do
you need a map or a compass?
Many
Scouts enjoy the challenge of hiking and orienteering
- make
sure you've got a good, accurate orienteering
compass with the right information, and have an appropriate
map designed for walkers - the Ordnance
Survey Orange Explorer Maps are favourites with walkers.

Like
the Scout motto suggests: "Be Prepared"
Take
what you need, and, if there is an ever so slight chance of
needing
a particular item of gear, take it. It's always worth being
prepared for every eventuality! Visit CheapTents.com's online
camping equipment shop for more ideas.
